Gloves that don’t feel like gloves.
Sensitive, you won’t know you’re wearing it.
DSM Dyneema® stands for nothing less than the highest levels of safety at work. And protection at work has never been more important. Employees want high quality, comfortable protection that won’t affect the quality of their work. Employers want high quality, cost-effective protection that enables them to comply with rigorous safety regulations. That’s why we’re proud to say that gloves
made with Dyneema®, manufactured by DSM Dyneema’s customers, meet all these requirements by providing incredibly tough protection against mechanical hazards combined with an outstanding sensitivity and cost-effectiveness.
A uniquely flexible fiber
Dyneema® is the world’s strongest fiber (15 times stronger than steel on a weight for weight basis). Dyneema® High Performance Polyethylene (HPPE) fiber is made from Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE). So, Dyneema® fiber is much thinner and more flexible than traditional materials such as leather and cotton while offering higher protection. It is also more flexible and has superior abrasion levels than other man-made fibers. And, unlike other HPPE fibers, it can be easily used in spun yarns that are even softer to the skin.
Gloves that don’t feel like gloves
Because Dyneema® HPPE fiber is so strong, it protects even when it is used in lightweight yarns and gloves. This makes gloves made with Dyneema® so comfortable that it’s easy to forget you’re wearing them. Employees appreciate being given gloves that don’t feel like gloves. Consequently, they are much more likely to wear them at all times – effectively increasing workplace safety.
Strong in the toughest environments.
Gloves made with Dyneema® fibers are suitable for protection against mechanical hazards in the toughest environments. Due to the wide variety of engineered yarns and spun yarns that can be made with Dyneema®, gloves made with Dyneema® can be designed for different protection levels (up to the highest levels) while maintaining an unprecedented level of comfort. Gloves made with Dyneema® are also highly resistant to abrasion and chemicals, so you can rely on them to provide long-lasting protection.
Heavy industry
The blend of strength and comfort found in Dyneema® HPPE fiber is unique. Many companies, including some of the world’s largest, use gloves made with Dyneema® in demanding manufacturing and industrial environments worldwide: Automotive, Glass, Paper, Household equipment, Steel, Construction and Emergency services.
Traditionally, many of these sectors have used general purpose gloves made from leather and cotton. These ‘first generation’ gloves had low levels of protection and were not very comfortable. A ‘second generation’ of gloves based on man made fibers provided higher levels of protection and improved comfort. Now there is Dyneema®, which offers the highest possible levels of cost-effective protection and comfort as industry worldwide moves towards ever higher standards of workplace safety and employee care.
Gloves that don’t feel like gloves.
Complete comfort. Complete care.
The sophisticated softness of Dyneema® delivers numerous benefits in terms of all day working comfort. Using Dyneema® fiber it is possible
to make gloves that are soft and kind to the skin in all conditions. They are so comfortable that it’s easy to forget you’re wearing them. No sweat, no itch gloves But there’s more to Dyneema® fiber than softness. For instance, Dyneema® fiber adapts to the temperature of the skin, while transporting moisture to the outside of the glove. So, hands won’t sweat or get itchy when they are wearing gloves made with Dyneema®. This adds another element of comfort and further increases the likelihood of employees wearing their gloves for longer, increasing levels of safety.
Cost-effective comfort and strength.
Every company wants to provide a high quality working environment where safety is a priority. The costs of achieving this, while meeting rigorous safety standards, can be considerable. Gloves made with Dyneema® can do much to help employers reduce these costs.
Re-usable gloves
According to US and EU safety guidelines, gloves made with Dyneema® achieve the highest levels of abrasion resistance. So, they have a longer lifetime and, because they are machine washable, can be re-used several times. This reduces costs significantly as it is not necessary to buy new gloves so often.
Reduced healthcare and insurance costs
According to the Occupational Safety & Health Administration, more than 4 million non-fatal workplace injuries and illnesses are reported each year. All of these injuries and illnesses have the potential to incur costs in terms of absenteeism and health insurance. The best and most comfortable forms of hand and lower-arm protection will go a long way to reducing the amount and extent of injuries. In turn, this reduces the costs arising from absenteeism and healthcare insurance.
Gloves made with Dyneema® are an optimized means of achieving this virtuous circle – partly because they offer outstanding protection, and partly because they are so comfortable that employees will be happy to wear them for long periods.
Different fibers for different gloves.
Dyneema® fibers are highly versatile and can provide numerous forms of hand and lower-arm protection to major industries.
From pure Dyneema® to sophisticated combinations
Dyneema® fibers are used in a wide variety of engineered yarns, spun yarns or a combination of both. Dyneema® is the only HPPE fiber suitable for spun yarn manufacturing, be it pure Dyneema® or blends with, for example, polyamide and polyester. Dyneema® is also used extensively in engineered yarns, especially in combination with fiber glass and steel fiber. These combinations achieve the highest levels of cut resistance while preserving comfort and sensitivity.
Finally, Dyneema® has established an outstanding reputation in the cut resistance market for its suitability for use in coated gloves in combination with stretch yarns like Lycra®. There are still many exciting Dyneema® possibilities to explore. And you can be sure that we will never stop coming up with new ideas to meet the universal demands for new standards of cut resistance gloves.
