METS

METS 2012 has been a sensational landmark trade show as they celebrated their 25th consecutive annual show dedicated to the global marine leisure industry. METS started back in 1988 with little over 100 exhibitors and has built steadily year by year into the world’s biggest and best attended marine equipment trade show. As the leading product showcase, it has been the launch pad for many, many innovations, a place to spot emerging trends and – above all – see the world’s leading marine products. It is also renowned for networking opportunities that extend beyond show hours.

We were there visiting clients and searching for new opportunities. It was nice to see the new collection of sailcloth with Dyneema® by Contender and to see the new contacts Benvenuti made in the market. Armare also started a new giant project in marine, all good signs that show the resilience of the market in a time of financial crisis. Companies keep growing and new business opportunities arise.  In this high tech business where to stand still is to regress it is paramount that we remember that we have nothing to fear but fear itself. As a young dynamic company which can lean on years of experience in the market from within but also via our network we have an excellent view on the steps to undertake to get out of this crisis on top. And we love to share this view with you!

The history of the development of high tech fibers for ropes that has led up to the discovery of Dyneema® is one of innovation and progress, reducing costs and stimulating growth. This is progress… EuroFibers keeps on looking for new possibilities and products to ensure progress. With a stronger focus on high tech solutions EuroFibers will be able to give your business the edge it deserves in the next year and the years to come. EuroFibers ISO 9001:2008 Certified

We are happy to announce that as of today EuroFibers is officially ISO 9001:2008 certified by Lloyd’s Register Group!

Sooner than expected the good news arrived today that everything is in order and that EuroFibers is officially ISO 9001 certified. In this way we provide independent confirmation that our organization meets the requirements of ISO 9001. Over a million organizations worldwideare independently certified, making ISO 9001 one of the most widely used management tools in the world today. An ISO 9001 certificate is not a once-and-for-all award, but must be renewed at regular intervals recommended by the certification body. So with this certification we do not only show that we are keen on quality now, but also in the future. We are prone to keep up the good work and like to thank both Lloyd’s Register Group and FirmXperts for their support in this process![/one_half]

Let us introduce: Cees van Ommeren.

Dyneema pasfoto1 Introducing Cees van Ommeren

30 years old, living in Utrecht and recently started working for EuroFibers. Cees was attracted to strengthen the EuroFibers sales team and will focus on the sale of our fiber products and the para-aramid yarn in particular. Because it’s always nice to know who you are dealing with, we interviewed him at Eurofibers HQ in Maastricht.

Tuesday, September 11, 2012: Cees seems relaxed. Cup of coffee in his hand and a big smile on his face. The latter seems permanent. It makes me wonder, does he sleep smiling? Anyway, how’s Cees doing? “Very well! I am eager to start. I’m still searching a bit for the right rhythm, and the way to get the maximum of things done, but that’s all right! “

I notice that you are always cheerful and radiate positivity. Do you do that deliberately? Or do you just not get annoyed? “I do not really get irritated very often, except to people who act annoyed, all the time, haha. Also people with too much negative energy, people who say “no” to much. It sounds like a cliché, but I would rather try something that might go wrong and learn from that mistake than not to try it at all and say no in advance out of fear for failure.”

Ok, now that we’re going in this direction, what is your definition of happiness? “I think for me happiness and freedom lie very close together. Freedom to follow your dreams. This may be something small or something big. Next week I think I am very happy when I finally have a day off, haha ”

Well, you’re happy you love positive people and are attached to your freedom. Is there something you would like to change about yourself? After a very long silence…..”Everything is actually going pretty well.” He thinks for a moment … I would like to be more decisive. I find so many things interesting or fun, that I often find it difficult to make choices. I am also quite a pleaser, which is something I have to work on, that could be a trap in a professional environment. “

What is your biggest vice? “I occasionally get in to trouble because of assumptions I make that subsequently prove not to be correct. I make assumptions and quickly fill in parts of a conversation for myself. Because of this others sometimes get too little room to express themselves and this can result in misunderstandings. And conversely, I expect that other people make assumptions based on my comments, but that is obviously not always possible….! Oh and I sometimes drink a bit too much in the weekends.”

From whom did you learn the most? “From my own experience and from my parents. I believe learning is an everlasting process. It is always good to reflect on yourself and your behavior and learn from your mistakes and the mistakes of others.”

Are there people who you look up to? Who are your heroes? Cees thinks for a long time and comes to the miraculous conclusion that he has no heroes. When I ask whom he might ever want to meet, after long reflection he replies: “Barack Obama seems to be a guy with whom you can drink a beer.”

Which character trade do you appreciate most in a person? This time Cees does not have to think long. Positivity and empathy. Even if you do not agree, you can still try to understand someone. That’s one of the things I learned during my studies. By looking at the history of events sometimes someone can understand the world better. If you learn the how and why of an event you have the chance to prevent or replicate it.

What is your most treasured possession? ‘Health and especially, my mental health. The freedom of thought to make decisions and also at times not to take life too seriously. “

What are you hoping to mean for EuroFibers? What role do you play?

I hope that my work creates a permanent expansion of our assortment, I can vastly expand our network, and I will help build a basis for future e-commerce developments. “

An ambitious plan … How much time do you have earmarked?

Cees laughs. “Well … it started as a fun and relatively small aramid project. Meanwhile, the project expanded and my job is divided into 3 parts: call center / sales, marketing / market research and online. The challenge now is to state clear priorities, to find where best to focus on? I prefer all three parts of the job. This is often my problem, I am very enthusiastic for multiple affairs and want to do too much at the same time. I want to make new contacts with people and companies, and hope to be of service to new and existing customers. But I think it also great fun to work on online marketing and continue to set up the website, to keep writing newsletters and to expand the use of social media. But I think the focus is on sales, which is the core business, this is the goal. The rest are means to achieve that goal. “

You sound really excited. But it cannot be that you like everything about this job? ‘OK,’ says Cees matters like, administration I find less challenging. In every line of work there is something that is least nice of all your not nice. And if you think about it a little better about it is not that bad. “

You make a very sure appearance, you do not have any heroes and you’re fine and happy. Have you ever felt unsure or nervous? “Last Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday I was still nervous. every day I again start calling for EuroFibers I am a bit nervous for the first call. I know I have this and that means I always go to work well prepared. I am used to those nerves. It is a healthy tension, happily I’m not stuttering nervously. “

Working for EuroFibers also means that you often have to go abroad. Visiting customers, viewing opportunities and engaging with international relations. What do you miss the most abroad compared to the Netherlands? “The immediacy, the a deal is a deal attitude. I like to have a certain structure. I need rhythm. The Spanish manana manana, which does not come today, comes tomorrow, is not for me.

Is that also a frustration in your work, or rather what is your biggest frustration in your work? “I can not stand it when things do not work properly or when I see people in an organization with meaningless tasks. Waste, is my biggest frustration. Of time money and resources. When I do something without knowing why that happens, I’m curious and eager to learn.

Finally: what company or organization you would like to be president? “Phew …. just let me think …I currently do not have that ambition . Anyway, maybe I would when I retire, want to be owner of a company with a good product on a beautiful sunny location. A winery, or a boat rental. A beautiful dream, but for now I will stay sober and with both feet on the ground. “

Dyneema Aramid Bobbins 450x225 EuroFibers Aramids

In need of a para aramid fiber in 930, 1100 or 1670 dtex at a competative price?

A company is judged by its service and products and a product is judged by its quality and characteristics, so if the price is lower and the service more personal, the choice is simple. EuroFibers has added a new para-aramid fiber to its portfolio. This para-aramid is competitively priced and has similar properties as conventional para-aramid. Extensive research and testing show very good process ability. Would you like to test it yourself? Please contact Cees van Ommeren at Cees@EuroFibers.com to go over the details. We love to hear you opinion on the product and we could see if we can place some of your feedback in the next newsletter. We continue to search the market for good quality products at a better price so we can provide a better service to our clients.  Should you need an Aramid in a different titter please call or mail us to see if we can be of help. If we don’t have it we know someone who does!

Dyneema certified CertifiableCertifiable [ˈsɜːtɪˌfaɪəbəl]

adj

1. capable of being certified

2. fit to be certified as insane

A fitting word for the process of getting ones ISO 9001 certificate. The talks, the policies, the rules, the time spend not doing what you want to be doing, it all makes you certifiable in both meanings of the word. But in the end it is worth it. As an international operating business it is important for EuroFibers to obtain an ISO 9001 certificate. Not only for comparison but also for liability questions.

A problem with certification is that by capturing processes in a precise policy, personal input is often devaluated. The task is set and the list of actions to be taken as well. There is little or no room to deviate from the plan, and if you do want to deviate, this urge has to be documented in advance to create a new policy and process for dealing with urges. Setting standards and controlling quality are good things, but always be on guard that the process itself does not become more important than the product.

To everybody who was involved in the procurement of the ISO certificate for their company we would like to say; we know.. we know…, to everybody who needs help or has questions about the certificate, mail us at marcel.alberts@EuroFibers.com. For us the certificate changes nothing in the way we work, we still believe in quality, service and personal contact and will continue to do so in the future. We say what we do, we do what we say, and before the year is over we will have the ISO 9001 certificate to prove it!

Supporting new ideas is part of what we do. So when Frouke Wiarda pitched her idea to use kite lines with Dyneema® for a new project to create with various artist from around the world using kite lines and the wind as an extra

musical component, we were happy to help. With help of our valued customer Eurocord, we supplied the lines for her project and she was “delightfully happy” with the material. Follow this link to see and hear more about the project. Dyneema musicaerial7 Musical Fibers

After about a year and a half of helping out on a project basis we decided it would be better to tighten the bond a bit, and that I should come to work for EuroFibers on a more regular basis. Completely new to the market, with only minor experience with high performance fibers from my days as a salesman in outdoor equipment and no experience with Dyneema® I started helping out a couple of weeks before the Techtextil convention in Frankfurt, May 2011. This felt a bit like running before you can walk but Marcel and Jan taught me well and I survived. Not only had I learned a lot but I also had a good time. With my head spinning fro all the new information and a couple of beers we drank with the Belgium stand holders, (thanks guys see you next year!) I came back to the hotel and realised that this was an industry unlike any other I had ever seen, and that I liked it, I liked it a lot.

Getting to know the industry has thought me a couple of things so far, the most important one being: quality is king, getting to know our costumers this is what they all have in common. The focus in the market is on quality and research. Furthermore openness and honesty count here more than in other markets and trust is the basis for all good business. In the short time that EuroFibers exists. EuroFibers has earned the trust of a lot of new companies and is helping out existing clients with the development of new products. Our focus lies with the development of your business, because helping to grow your business helps to grow ours.

I will be blogging regularly about my job on our website. I will be talking about the latest developments in the market and about my experience as a newcomer in this industry. With Dyneema® being used in products ranging from bulletproof vests to sewing threads all over the world and even out of this world in space, there will be plenty of stories to tell. But it is not only the products; it is the different people as well.

As innovation partner of DSM Dyneema EuroFibers is now seeking new participants to commercialize the latest innovation for Dyneema®. This patent pending combination of cotton with a negligible percentage of Dyneema® more than doubles the abrasion resistance of cotton. Besides the increase in abrasion resistance, also the tensile strength and tear resistance have improved significantly.

An open invitation for open innovation

Cotton mills, denim producers, knitters and weavers of cotton products and consumer brands are invited to contact EuroFibers if they are interested to participate in this open innovation project. If both parties see a match for working together, EuroFibers will share available knowledge regarding the invention and supply samples but does not require the partners to reveal their trade secrets.

Stronger and more durable cotton fabrics

EuroFibers is an innovative supplier of High Performance Fibers to the European textile industry and premium distributor of Dyneema®, the world’s strongest fiber™. The company constantly seeks new opportunities that push the boundaries of applications with Dyneema® and need your help.

“We know the high performance fiber market very well and have good knowledge of the shortcomings of 100 % cotton fabrics in technical application.” Marcel Alberts, Managing Director of EuroFibers, comments. “Because of the strong value proposition of the invention we are confident that a large part of the cotton industry can benefit from it. We now want to forge strong partnerships with cotton processing companies and their customers who can take advantage from stronger and more durable cotton fabrics to make this a marketplace success story.”

Solid reputation

Dyneema® has already built up a solid reputation as the material of choice in bullet resistant vests, high protective textiles and marine applications. “We now can open a whole new market segment where denim, work wear and gloves are the obvious first applications to look at. I am sure there is much more out there, the clue is to find the right partners.” says Jan Kriele, Business Development Manager of EuroFibers.
