PEN: High Performance, High Modulus

Polyethylene Naphthalate(PEN) is a high-performance member of the polyester family boasting a modulus five times that of nylon, two-and-a-half times that of polyester, and double that of rayon.

Properties of PEN

  • Excellent heat resistance, modulus and dimensional stability
  • Lower shrinkage allows for dimensional stability in the finished item and minimizes width losses in the weft direction during coating/laminating processes
  • Good chemical resistance and retention of mechanical properties in hot/wet environment
  • Applications that require extreme strength can rely on PEN’s high tensile strength, high modulus and low tensile elongation
  • Superior thermal and mechanical properties make PEN an ideal choice for rubber reinforcement

ApplicationsĀ of PEN

  • Engineered reinforcements
  • Rope and cordage
  • Tire cord
  • Narrow and Broad woven fabrics
  • Composites
  • Seatbelts
  • Sailcloth
